A very tough walk in rugged Narrabeen sandstone. The combination of steep valley sides, loose rocks underfoot and thick vegetation makes for a challenging climb in a remote area. For very experienced off track walkers only. You are rewarded at the summit by a fantastic view of the northern Wollemi. The route starts with 5km of fire trail. A mountain bike is recommended.
Driving directions
Drive north-east from Rylstone along Coxs Creek Road. About 19km out of Rylstone is Coxs Creek Trail to the left. This is 4WD only and you can leave your car at the intersection here.
Directions to the summit
1. Follow Coxs Creek trail for 1.3km where Hefrons Trail splits off to the right. Follow this trail for another 3km till you are 4.5km from the main road.
2. Cross the creek and head west up the gully. The route I found was on the far left of the gully following the base of the cliffs. Continue up to the saddle.
3. From the saddle, head down into the next gully, heading around to your left. Follow the base of the cliffs around to the left, then start up toward another saddle.
4. There are some good views from the rocks here.
5. The summit has views in almost every direction.
